Scopes: Intelligent techniques foster the dissemination of new discoveries and novel technologies that advance the ability of robotics to assist and support humans. Intelligent robots aim to understand the increasingly coupled relationships between human and machine. With the increasing trend towards home service and health care, we are faced with a need for improved control systems of human-centered robots capable of performing in these unstructured environments. The special issue addresses a broad spectrum of topics ranging from human-centered intelligent robots acting as a servant, secretary, or companion to intelligent robotic functions such as intelligent humanoid robots, quadruped robots, wheeled robots, biomorphic robots, exoskeleton, wearable robots, wheeled balance transporter, variable stiffness actuators, etc. Special attention should be given to the integration of robotics with intelligent control technology, cognitive science and bio-mechatronics systems with the goal of developing new multi-dimensional robotic services. This includes modeling, identification, intelligent control, cognitive computing, EEG and EMG signal processing, neural impedance adaptations in an unstructured environment, and cognitive modeling for human-robot interaction. The special issue publishes original papers of innovative ideas and concepts, new discoveries and improvements, and novel applications and business models relevant to the field of human robot interaction. Topics explored in this special issue include, but are not limited to:

Ø  Modeling and control of various wearable robots and exoskeletons
Ø  Novel development of human-in-loop robotic/mechatronics systems
Ø  Intelligent control of human cooperative robots
Ø  BCI-based control of robotic systems
Ø  Modeling and control of wheeled balance vehicles/mobile robots
Ø  Impedance control for human robot cooperation
Ø  Identification and control of quadruped robots
Ø  Sensing and control systems for intelligent humanoid robots
Ø  Intelligent control of the prosthetic robot for the disables.
Ø  Dynamic modeling and control of variable stiffness actuators
Ø  EEG and EMG signal processing and cognitive modeling
Ø  Development of Bio-mechatronics systems for human-centered intelligent robots
Ø  New applications of human-robot automation
